If you are a vocalist, bass player, or even a guitarist who uses pedal effects to get your sounds, then there are high chances that it can be a nuisance trying to keep everything in one place, or even carry all your selection of different effects in your arsenal.
If you are running out of budget & have the knowledge on how to make a pedal board for your order, then spending time beyond it will be worth.
Trying to sort out all the batteries, leads, and cables involved can be a daunting task. This is where pedal boards come into play. Here, we shall show you how to make a pedal board by providing you with a guide on how to build your own pedal board. Let us begin.
What is a pedalboard?
For those wondering why they should consider building their own board, the answer is simple. If you by any chance have more than 2 pedals, then a pedal board provides you with an effective and efficient way for you to carry around all your effects and keep your connector leads, such as cables and patch leads safe.
In a word A guitar pedal board is a panel which act as a container for effect pedals. Some pedalboard has the provision to use external power supply and some models have their own to provide power for those effect pedals.
Main reasons to consider building a pedal board are:
This device comes with either cable ties or Velcro that is used to hold pedal and attach all effects to your board. Your effects are safely held in place and will not rattle around, thus helping you prevent any damage.
Since all your effects are attached to your device, there is no need to go digging through your guitar case or backpack looking for something as it will still be right where you left it.
Quicker Setup Time
Reattaching power-supplies and leads each and every time you play is not an ideal situation, especially if you want to get on stage quickly. With a pedal board, you will be able to plug in and start playing sooner because everything is already hooked up. All you will need to do is attach a lead to your guitar then your amp and you are good to start playing.
Your guitar will last longer
Power leads from your charge supply to your effects can be quite weak, so the less you handle and touch them, the better and long lasting they will be. Guitar cables, patch leads and other cables are built to last but if they are thrashed about and knocked around in a backpack, there are high chances that they will break down earlier than expected.

Now that you have assembled everything, the next step is to build the best pedal board you can. First and foremost, you need to have your pedal-board order. You will need to set up the pedals up in a correct order.
Using Your Pedal board For the First Time
When it comes to setting up your pedals, it really depends on you and what order you think sounds best. Above provided order is the most common configuration.
First, you need to connect the tuner. Your tuner will receive unaffected and pure signal. The order will give you best tuning capabilities.
Next, place wah-pedals and filters in. They work best when they are placed next.
It is ideal to have your compressor next to the chain and as close to your guitar as possible – it will raise the noise of an effect.
Next goes in overdrive, fuzz, distortion,Tremolo Pedal etc. These items work to change the harmonic content and amplify sound of whatever you are playing.
EQ-pedals will allow you to dim out any unwanted mids or add extra to those solos you are using a gain/ distortion pedal.
Place in modulation-pedals after EQ-pedals are in. Modulation-pedals and others such as flanger, phaser, and chorus-pedals should always be placed next and after any tone-producing effects. Modulation-pedals will be able to process and modify all tones created before them.
Placing delay-pedals before any distortion or gain can result in a mess - it is best to place then at the end of chain.
Now it is time to connect your revert-pedals and lastly, your looper-pedals.
Now that your pedals are in order, next comes power supply. Include input jack in the pedal board.
Unless all your devices operate on batteries and you do not mind changing them, then a power supply is a must. All these will juice up your device effectively. Choosing one for your DIY project really depends on your budget. They vary in budget, voltage etc.
Few models are compact and will allow you to charge 10-pedals off one unit while others have lesser outlets.
